Alarm Systems Sensors
- (Alarm system) Burglar (or intrusion), fire, and safety alarms are electronic alarms designed to alert the user to a specific danger. Sensors are connected to a control unit via low-voltage wiring or a narrowband RF signal which is used to interact with a response device.
- (alarm system) alarm: a device that signals the occurrence of some undesirable event
- (alarm system) Warning devices, installed or free-standing, including but not limited to: carbon monoxide detectors, flue gas and other spillage detectors, security equipment, ejector pumps and smoke alarms.
alarm systems
- A device that detects or measures a physical property and records, indicates, or otherwise responds to it
- (sensing) detection: the perception that something has occurred or some state exists; “early detection can often lead to a cure”
- (sensing) becoming aware of something via the senses
- (sensor) detector: any device that receives a signal or stimulus (as heat or pressure or light or motion etc.) and responds to it in a distinctive manner

Alarm System Control Unit
The part number on this box reveals it to be the control unit for the alarm system. It’s been fixed to the body using a single self-tapping screw in a hole drilled into the bracket that the side of the dash is fixed onto. I’m not sure where it would normally be found.
There were a couple of alarm sensors fitted at the tops of the A pillars (are they ultrasonic or motion sensors maybe?) and I think these must have been fitted after the car was built. There’s additional wiring to the hazard warning light switch too.
IR sensor for MIDAS satellite
A game of 3-D chess anyone? No – it is an IR sensor for the US first generation early warning satellites – MIDAS (Missile Defense Alarm System).
The canted angle of the top half – allowed the satellite to scan a large portion of the Earth’s surface as the satellite spun around its axis.
The checkerboarding – was probably to allow the satellite to calculate what area it detected the launch out of.
